Welcome to Dear Diary. A section which entails to the abstract portion of what goes on in my mind. Unlike the rest of this website, this section will not be modified, edited or changed with the exception of spell check and grammatical errors. The reason behind this is to ensure that the organic thoughts and reflections stay true to their original realm and are unchanged due to either second thoughts or altering influences.
With that being said, I present to you the first page of the Dear Diary segment:
Dear Diary,
Why do we think twice before speaking about topics which are some of the core problems of today's world. There's a stigma which pushes towards acknowledging these problems but to never speak of them, especially in a public and professional settings. I respect the concept of minimizing or completely eradicating the scenario of opposing interests but to completely shut out these issues can be seen as equally damaging.
So much knowledge is surfaced nowadays, especially if you a attend higher education. Yet the proposition of openly discussing matters relating to politics, religion, race, sexual orientation, women's rights and more are shut out.
Granted that there is a time and place for everything and certain environments are just not supportive of such philosophical and fundamental topics, however, as a community, these issues need to be opened and discussed to eliminate the problems that arise from their misconception and to foster a greater depth of knowledge.
Why it should be talked about:
- Understanding; people have questions about your way of thinking. The only way to clear the confusion is to talk about it and transfer your thoughts as clear as possible.
- Why not? Why should anyone be afraid or discouraged from speaking about something which can lead to finding a solution or at the very least minimizing the issue?
- Awareness. Have you heard of the infamous statement of "teach your son's the meaning of no rather than teaching your daughters how to stay protected"? I think this is a prime example of why fundamental topics should be openly discussed. Social norms conform us in ways which blind side us to the underlying problem.
- Ultimate growth. We've established the fact that these issues are in existent. Not talking about them is doing more harm than talking about them. Therefore, opening these issues cannot lead to more harm. Although there is the danger of how they are presented and spoken of but that has nothing to do with the issue itself.
All in all I think it is impossible for us to solve global and humanistic issues if they're simply buried under the ground and mourned from a far. Lets start talking about what matters and opening topics to solve the problems rather than simply knowing of them. After all, nothing is possible unless it is attempted.
