Since early 2020, I have been leading the Training and Development department for the business development centre at OpenRoad Auto Group. During my time here, I have been creating some exciting and challenging projects which involve strategy formulation, copywriting, filming, postproduction and course development using learning management systems such as Absorb and Litmos. The learning videos are amalgamated with exams and assessments to create a learning path for each department which efficiently teaches users the necessary components for their position.
Air Canada was my first introduction into the world of big scale commercial filming and marketing. It was a short-term project that took place in Vancouver, Canada and Tokyo, Japan. My role was around finding stories and communicating them to the director on set to create the storyboard for the campaign. The commercial was titled ‘Coming Home for the Holidays’ and has since been viewed over 7 million times on YouTube. The video can be viewed here.
At Amazon, I got to use my pre-existing design and event planning skills to execute events and social content as Brand Manager; our focus was on Amazon Prime in the student demographic. Our team was the first to take on this project in the Canadian market. We worked closely with marketing staff to conceptualize marketing campaigns across social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat.
Following my time at Spotify, I was heavily intrigued and interested to stay within the area of marketing and music. My role as a Brand Manager for Beats by Dr. Dre involved driving brand awareness by developing communications materials for internal and external engagement initiatives.
At Kaplan, I was responsible for segmenting and finding groups and clubs on campus during my undergrad, who were keen on grad school. My role included delivering brand presentations and microtargeting to inform students about the path to grad school and the resources that Kaplan had to offer. During my time at Kaplan, I awarded over $10, 000 in scholarship funds to students who wanted to pursue postgraduate studies.
Spotify was my entry into the world of marketing. Up until this point I had studied all the theories and strategies in textbooks. I was in my second year of my undergraduate degree when I became a Brand Manager for Spotify. My responsibility was centered around creating content for the official Facebook and Instagram pages for our target segment. I also planned and coordinated events in my region with the official Spotify Tour team; our most iconic event being the Canada-wide Student ID Tour.
During my time at Simon Fraser University as an Administrative Assistant, I worked closely with the Associate Dean of Libraries as well as the Dean of Libraries. I worked with some of the most intellectual and experienced directors and educators at the University that all had an ‘engaging the world’ mentality. Being a young professional at the time, I was constantly learning, especially being in an environment like a library. One of my most career changing learning opportunities was when I was sent to take a course with Canon Canada on the functionality and creative image making of motion picture which was destined to be my first footsteps into the world of creative design.
Truthfully speaking, my career in creative direction started at Speedo Copy and Print. A family business run by my father till this day. As a family-run business, I was constantly involved in the day-to-day functions of the business. From taking orders to designing them to developing and printing them. I mastered Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat DC. Some may think that it was an easy and relaxing job opportunity as my father was my boss, but the opposite is true. I often worked seven days a week to acquire and maintain client directories and would constantly be developing new methods for print productions. I grew to learn great discipline, interpersonal skills and a firm understanding of design which I still use till this day. Thank you, Dad.
